PARISH COUNCIL MEETING
November 18, 2009

3. Minutes from October 21 meeting were approved.
4. Commission Chairpersons reports:
Administration & Finance: Paul Goldak
§ Faith Direct has 150 families giving $5,057 per week which is on par with other parishes of our size.
§ Capital requirements and costs for carpeting in the school library and administrative rooms will be discussed at future Finance Council meetings.
§ Pre-school start-up costs will be about $3,000.
§ Home and School Association will fund Smartboards for the school.
§ The Endowment Committee will be working on getting the word out in the coming weeks on endowment giving.
Christian Formation: Gene Buerke
§ There will be an Advent retreat for the PSR and Parish School Boards on December 1.
§ Work continues to establish a Pre-School for the Fall of 2010. There is a classroom available. Donation of toys and other items for the program has begun. Some advertising has been done and flyers have been sent to parents of prospective students.
§ Parish School is upgrading the curriculum to meet the higher demands of high schools.
§ Msgr. Simon reported that there are no tuition delinquencies.
Christian Service: Ann McNamara
§ Holly Wille reported that approximately 150 parishioners attended the Health Fair.
§ 170 flu shots were given to the general public on a Sunday in November.
§ There will be an Adventure program held around December 6. Details to be finalized.
§ Knights of Columbus will be having an Advent Service in December where RCIA Candidates will be presented with rosaries. The Nativity set will be set-up on the Saturday before the beginning of Advent. The Knights will be sponsoring a Texas Hold ‘Em tournament in January.
§ Meal-A-Month delivered 93 meal bags to Catholic Charities Southside in October.
§ The Respect Life Committee has representation at the Archdiocesan Pro-Life Convention in October. The Friends for Life Pro-Life club now has 46 students participating. At the November 4 meeting, the students prepared 240 sandwiches which were donated to the St. Patrick’s Center. The Respect Life Committee will be selling Pro-Life Christmas cards in the Church Hall after Masses. The Pro-Life Essay Contest is underway for all 8th graders in the parish. 4 winners will be selected, who, along with 2 chaperones, will have their expenses paid to attend the March for Life in Washington, DC in January.
§ St. Vincent de Paul will be holding their canned food drive on Thanksgiving and in December will coordinate the Adopt-A-Family and Giving Tree programs.
Liturgy: Eric Jarvis
§ The Committee welcomed Tina Moszczenski who will be representing Arts and Environment.
§ There was discussion regarding talking in church after Mass.
Stewardship: Marilyn Hecker
§ Meeting was held November 9. 601 Intention Cards have been returned, which is slightly ahead of comparable time last year. The amount pledged, however, was down 8% from last year. 172 cards indicated willingness to become new members of organizations. Letters and potential new member lists were mailed to all organization leaders asking them to contact the potential new members.
§ The Stewardship committee would like to ask the Parish Council Liaisons to send a friendly reminder to their organizations regarding the need to contact these potential new members. If you can, please use the following suggested reminder when you ask for next month’s reports: “If you received a letter from the Stewardship Committee with a list of potential new members, please make those introductory phone calls on behalf of your organization.”
§ There will be stewardship training and workshops available through the Archdiocese on Jan. 19 and Feb. 3, 2010.
Social: Kevin Jones
§ Boy Scouts held a campout November 13 – 15 at Meramec State Park. Annual Scouting for Food is November 21.
§ Fifty Plus will meet on November 19. St. Louis County Police K-9 Officer is the scheduled speaker. Plans are underway for the annual Christmas party. There were 43 who participated in the trip to Branson.
§ Parish Picnic: A bulletin announcement is forthcoming announcing the need for a new chairperson. The amusement ride contract must be signed in December and will not be signed if there is no chairperson, thus risking cancellation of the picnic.
§ Social Mid-Life Connection is planning an outing to Olde St. Charles on December 4.
§ Variety Guild held their second meeting for the 2010 show and practices start on January 3.

6. New Business
§ New Parish Council members introduced themselves. New members are: Kevin Niewoehner, Dan McLaughlin, and Judy Messmer. Installation of new council members will be held January 10 during 9:00 a.m. Mass.
§ Sign-ups for hosting 2010 Donut Sundays will be sent to organizations. Dates for 2010 Donut Sundays were set.
7. Msgr. Simon Report
A guest seminarian will speak at Masses the weekend of November 21-22 on the Faith for the Future program. The pledge goal for QAS is $614,000. To date, approximately $300,000 has been pledged. Additional canvassers are needed. A Phone-A-Thon will be conducted in late November to attempt to reach approximately 700 families requesting their support for this endeavor.
